Nice to meet you!

Hi! We're Charelle and Marcel, two likeminded Dutchies who love the freedom of the open road. We refuse to exile travel to "some other, seemingly more appropriate, time of our lives” (as Rolf Potts perfectly puts it in his book Vagabonding). We live now. For us traveling is about adventure, exploring the unknown, freedom, personal growth and the feeling that every day is lived to the fullest. With Char Is Far we do not merely want to take you on the road with us, but we hope to inspire you to go out and explore the world for yourself. On your own terms. It's time to get out of your comfort zone and chase those dreams. No one else is going to do it for you.

Charelle Kooy founded Char Is Far (hence the name) in 2019 and works as a freelance copywriter and content marketeer for her business Char Content & Copywriting. She absolutely loves weightlifting, good coffee, rugged mountains and empty beaches.

Marcel Toet quit his job running an engineering department to travel full time in 2024. Most of the photos and videos on the website are his; he’s an excellent drone pilot and photographer. He really likes tech gadgets, winding mountain roads and scuba diving.

Driving from the Netherlands to Singapore

In March 2024 we embarked on our biggest adventure yet: driving from our hometown Utrecht in the Netherlands to Singapore. After 232 days on the road we arrived in Singapore on the 10th of November. It was the journey of a lifetime. Crossing the entire landmass of Eurasia, 35.000 kilometers over land. Through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, China and eventually South East Asia. Overland, with our own Toyota 4Runner. But we are not ready to go home yet, so we shipped our car to the Middle East to drive home from there. Will you travel with us?
