Hi! We’re Charelle and Marcel, two likeminded Dutchies who love the freedom of the open road. As Rolf Potts puts it in his book Vagabonding<\/em><\/a>: we weigeren om reizen uit te stellen naar \u201ceen meer geschikte tijd in ons leven\".<\/em> We leven n\u00fa.<\/p>\n

Voor ons gaat reizen over avontuur, het ontdekken van het onbekende, groeien door de uitdagingen onderweg en elke dag wakker worden met het gevoel dat de dag ertoe doet. Niet om lijstjes af te vinken, maar om \u00e9cht te leven.<\/p>\n

Met Char Is Far<\/em>, willen we je niet alleen meenemen op onze reizen, maar hopen we je vooral te inspireren om er zelf op uit te gaan. Op jouw manier. Dit is onze uitnodiging aan jou om los te breken, je dromen na te jagen en de wereld te gaan ontdekken. Het is tijd om uit je comfortzone te stappen.<\/p>\n

Charelle Kooy<\/em><\/strong> richtte in 2019 Char Is Far op, vandaar de naam. Ze is een freelance tekstschrijver en contentstrateeg<\/a> , en de persoon achter alles wat je hier leest. Charelle runt de blog, beheert de socials, bewerkt de foto's en video's en vindt tussendoor tijd om zwaar te liften in de gym, goede koffie te drinken op het strand, of zonsopkomsten te zien in de bergen.<\/p>\n

Marcel Toet<\/strong><\/em> verruilde in 2024 zijn baan als manager van een engineering afdeling voor een fulltime leven op reis. Tegenwoordig werkt hij als freelance adviseur en helpt hij bedrijven om complexe vraagstukken op te lossen met een frisse blik en scherp technisch inzicht. Hij is een uitstekende dronepiloot, voelt zich het meest thuis op kronkelende bergweggetjes en lijkt voor niets of niemand bang. Sterker nog, we zijn er nog steeds niet achter of hij \u00fcberhaupt ergens<\/em> bang voor is.<\/p>\n

Twee verschillende persoonlijkheden<\/h2>\n

Waar Charelle met haar diepgang en creativiteit de wereld leest als een verhaal, stapt Marcel recht de ervaring in. Met vuur, visie en een ontembare drang om te leven met volle overtuiging.<\/p>\n

Zij voelt, hij doet. Zij droomt, hij daagt uit. En in dat spanningsveld ontstaat ruimte. Voor groei, voor avontuur, voor vrijheid.<\/p>\n

We reizen niet om aan het leven te ontsnappen, maar om dichtbij onszelf te komen. We kiezen routes die stof doen opwaaien, gesprekken die schuren, plekken die ons uitdagen en stil maken tegelijk. En onderweg bouwen we iets dat geen huis nodig heeft: een leven dat klopt, omdat we het zelf vormgeven.<\/p>\n

\"Road<\/p>\n

We zijn twee karakters die elkaar versterken. Niet ondanks onze verschillen, maar dankzij. We zijn elkaars spiegel, motor en rustpunt. En boven alles: we zijn een team.<\/p>\n

Hij is degene die het onmogelijke mogelijk laat lijken. En zij is degene die het droomt, leeft, en vertaalt naar iets tastbaars voor de wereld om aan vast te houden.<\/p>\n

Rijden van Nederland naar Singapore<\/h2>\n

In maart 2024 begonnen we aan ons grootste avontuur tot nu toe: we reden over land van onze woonplaats Utrecht in Nederland naar Singapore. Na 232 dagen en 35.000 kilometer kwamen we op 10 november met onze Toyota 4Runner aan in Singapore.<\/p>\n

We reden dwars door Europa, het Midden-Oosten, Centraal-Azi\u00eb, China en uiteindelijk Zuidoost-Azi\u00eb. Gewoon wij, de weg, en alles wat het op ons pad bracht. En ja, het was episch.<\/p>\n

And she\u2019s the one who notices it, feels it, and turns it into something others can hold onto.   Driving from The Netherlands to Singapore In March 2024, we set off on our biggest adventure yet: driving overland from our hometown Utrecht in the Netherlands all the way to Singapore. After 232 days and 35.000 kilometers, we arrived in Singapore with our Toyota 4Runner on the 10th of November. We crossed the full stretch of Eurasia: through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and finally Southeast Asia. No flights, no shortcuts. Just the open road and everything it threw at us. Needless to say, it was epic. Whenever possible, we take the rougher route. Off-road trails, remote passes, and the kind of tracks that leave both dust and stories behind.
